New Year, New You: The Benefits of Hybrid Breast Augmentation
Reinventing yourself: what better time is there to do this than at the start of a new year? Whether your new start in 2025 is professional or private, an external change can be a wonderful way to support this personal process of yours. For some women, this can mean optimising their outward appearance and bringing it in line with their inner self-confidence. Significant changes to their silhouette, belly, buttocks or breasts can help with this through skilful aesthetic medicine.
In this article, I will focus on the hybrid breast augmentation method – a procedure that I also perform myself as an aesthetic surgeon in Switzerland. What are the advantages of this innovative method? And how does it differ from traditional approaches? I will explain this below based on my many years of practical experience.
Briefly explained: Hybrid breast augmentation
Hybrid breast augmentation in women combines traditional breast implants with the transfer of autologous fat. The advantages of both techniques are utilised: By inserting traditional implants, volume and shape can be built up in the female breast. The autologous fat, on the other hand, is used to soften the transitions. As a result, the augmented breast gains a natural and harmonious look.
How a hybrid breast augmentation works in detail
The hybrid breast augmentation procedure consists of two steps: The first step is liposuction. I first remove the patient’s own fat from one or even several areas of the body using gentle liposuction. Removal sites can be the abdomen, thighs or hips, for example. During this procedure, I mould the selected body areas according to my patients’ wishes. Contours become visibly more harmonious as a result.
I then prepare the autologous fat and later inject it into the breast to add volume or compensate for irregularities. First, however, I have to insert the breast implant. The subsequent lipofilling is precision work, because I build up volume in a targeted manner and create a symmetrical, natural-looking breast shape. The entire process, including implantation and autologous fat transfer, takes about two hours and is performed under sedation or twilight sleep. A recovery period of one week should be planned in any case.
At a glance: Advantages of composite breast augmentation
- Customised breast shape: The hybrid method allows the breast to be customised to the woman’s wishes. The implant size, shape and amount of autologous fat can be precisely tailored.
- Natural look and feel: The change is discreet and unobtrusive. The use of autologous fat makes the transitions between the implant and breast tissue appear smooth. And the feel also has a natural touch.
- Time and cost savings: Liposuction for breast augmentation allows other areas of the body to be contoured and aesthetically optimised at the same time – without additional costs and further surgery.
- Lower complication rate: The hybrid method uses a small implant and builds up the rest of the volume with autologous fat. As experience shows, small implants create less problems than bigger ones.
- ‘Hidden implants’: Implants often appear conspicuous or even artificial, especially in slim women with little breast tissue. With autologous fat, the implant can be better concealed.
- More comfort: My patients regularly report greater comfort with the hybrid method. The softer texture of the autologous fat around the implant ensures better mobility.
Is hybrid breast augmentation right for me?
Whether a traditional or hybrid breast augmentation is right for you is without question a very personal decision. In my consultations, I put high emphasis on precisely defining my patients’ individual expectations and understanding whether and how breast augmentation can and should help them.
Based on my expertise, I particularly recommend the hybrid method to women who prefer a natural look and want to treat several aesthetic matters at the same time. For example, this could be fat deposits in other areas of the body that need to be reduced. I also recommend the hybrid technique if a woman has very little of her own tissue in order to avoid visible edges around the implants. In this way, I usually achieve very good, customised and harmonious breast results.
The alternative: breast augmentation using fat transfer only
Women who prefer not to have any foreign material in their bodies can also have their breasts enlarged using only their autologous fat. This alternative is particularly suitable if only a slight increase in volume is desired anyway. Thus, results are more subtle and the fact that only the body’s own material is used means that the body accepts the result very well. However, not all of the injected fat is retained in the long term. The hybrid technique therefore creates a middle ground in which the implant provides permanent breast volume and the autologous fat softens the shape.
