The Basics of Rhinoplasty: What You Need to Know
A pretty nose is widely considered the epitome of symmetrical beauty. However, only few people are truly satisfied with their nose – be it because of a crooked position, its size, height or width. Some therefore consider a nose correction.
What are the options for changing the shape and position of the nose? Why is the procedure so complex and how much does it cost? We would like to answer these frequent questions of our patients in detail in the following article and inform you comprehensively about rhinoplasty in advance. In doing so, I share with you the many years of experience as a plastic surgeon.
What exactly is rhinoplasty anyway?
Rhinoplasty, also called nose correction or rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure that makes it possible to change the shape and structure of the nose. It requires a lot of precision and technique to achieve the desired result in rhinoplasty. In addition, there are many important aspects to consider during the procedure.
Who needs a rhinoplasty in the first place?
Some of my patients decide to have a rhinoplasty for aesthetic reasons, for others it is medically indicated. Aesthetic reasons for rhinoplasty are when you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your nose. Personal dissatisfaction often has to do with the shape or size of the nose. Aesthetic rhinoplasty can be used, for example, to reduce nasal humps, refine nasal tips or change nostrils.
Medical reasons are given when rhinoplasty treats breathing problems that are due to structural abnormalities in the nose. These are usually a crooked nasal septum or narrowed nasal passages. In such cases, rhinoplasty can improve breathing and increase the overall life quality of patients.
In all of these cases, patients can benefit from rhinoplasty – provided they have realistic expectations and seek comprehensive advice from a qualified plastic surgeon in advance about whether rhinoplasty is possible and makes sense in their individual case.
Healing and things to know about rhinoplasty
Healing after a nose correction takes up to several weeks. Swelling and bruising may occur temporarily, but will disappear. At Dr. Kelly, we make it a priority to provide you with a thorough consultation prior to a potential rhinoplasty to clarify your expectations and ensure that the procedure meets your individual needs. Of course, like any surgical procedure, a rhinoplasty carries certain risks, which we will, of course, carefully consider together beforehand.
What are the costs for a nose correction in Switzerland?
The cost of rhinoplasty in Switzerland varies considerably and depends on various factors, similar to other countries. The main factors includethe plastic surgeon’s qualifications and experience, the type of surgery (aesthetic or medical) and its complexity. The price also takes into account the materials needed and the facility where the surgery takes place.
However, it is important not only to decide on the basis of cost, but also to consider the surgeon’s qualifications and experience to ensure optimal results and safety in the quality of your rhinoplasty. As an plastic surgeon in Switzerland, it is important for me to discuss the individual costs with my patients in detail in advance.
What are the “hidden” costs of a nose correction?
The costs of a nose correction often go beyond the actual procedure itself. This is because the preliminary examination, aftercare, possible anesthesia and possible medication afterwards must also be taken into account. During the initial cost estimate, I try to take all of these aspects into consideration.
When considering costs, please also bear in mind that the cost of a nose correction also reflects my qualifications and experience as a plastic surgeon in Switzerland. The team at Dr. Kelly will be happy to advise you on all payment and financing options.
Before and after comparison: Your nose
If self-confidence has suffered from a crooked, hooked or too large nose before, a nose correction usually leads to relief for my patients afterward. Optimizing the shape and position of the nose creates a harmonious overall facial impression, improves the appearance and thus increases self-esteem. Rhinoplasty can thus eliminate aesthetic dissatisfaction.
For example, as an aesthetic surgeon, I can:
- reduce your nasal humps
- correct a hooked nose
- optically balance a crooked nose
- refine the tip of your nose
- enlarge or reduce the size of your nostrils
- narrow your nose as a whole
In addition, rhinoplasty can also provide health benefits. Some people suffer from breathing problems beforehand due to structural abnormalities in the nose. Rhinoplasty can correct these problems afterward by optimizing the structure of the nose and making it easier to breathe. This can help reduce snoring and treat sleep apnea, for example. In this way, rhinoplasty improves the overall quality of life of my patients in the long term.
A must-do: thorough consultation before any rhinoplasty
With rhinoplasty, both aesthetic and functional improvements can be achieved. Possible uncertainties, as well as health complaints, can be alleviated or eliminated by the procedure.
For our team of aesthetic surgeons, it is particularly important to clarify your individual goals and expectations in a joint preliminary consultation to ensure that, with your help, we achieve the desired result – the best nose shape or freedom from complaints on the outer or inner nose.
