Botox for heavy sweating (medical term: hyperhidrosis) is usually considered when local treatments such as antiperspirants and medications have not been successful. It is effective when used to treat smaller areas on the body. Therefore, the method does not provide a common option for treating generalized hyperhidrosis on the whole body. If heavy sweating has become a problem for you that is affecting your quality of life, you should look into this treatment.
In order for the body to produce sweat, a chemical messenger is sent to the nerves that activate your sweat glands. When heavy sweating (hyperhidrosis) becomes too much, botulinum toxin blocks this process by preventing the chemical messenger from reaching the sweat gland. Without the chemical message, the treated glands cannot produce sweat. After your body metabolizes the botulinum toxin, your perspiration returns to normal, usually after about 7-8 months.
Ideally, you should come to your appointment with freshly shaved forearms. Your forearms will be thoroughly cleaned to sterilize the area before the injections are scheduled. A numbing cream is not absolutely necessary, but may be used on patients who are particularly sensitive or nervous.
Finally, I inject a very fine needle that delivers the active ingredient to the target area. The entire procedure takes about 30-45 minutes.
In an initial, no-obligation consultation, I can show you the hyperhidrosis treatment in detail and answer all your questions.
It can take up to a week for the botulinum toxin to work properly and reduce hyperhidrosis. Many people may notice results sooner, but it is important to note that it takes a while for the effects to kick in. Heavy sweating will then be a thing of the past.
Until your body has metabolized the active ingredient; this usually takes about 7-8 months. Hyperhidrosis must be treated regularly to keep heavy sweating under control.
“Botox treatment for heavy sweating is safe, uncomplicated and gives you a new body image.”
There are no unpleasant sensations or effects that would interfere with your daily life. Complications are also extremely rare with Botox for severe sweating. However, you will notice an immediate improvement in hyperhidrosis while feeling an improvement in your overall well-being.
If you are pregnant or you are breastfeeding, you should not receive this treatment for hyperhidrosis. If you have muscle or nerve disorders, neuromuscular disease, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, you must contact your treating physicians to determine whether or not this option is safe for you.
In my practice, your well-being and an optimal result is our top priority. Each patient has an individuality whose needs are the focus of my treatments. Therefore, it is not always possible to give a general estimate of the costs. Therefore, please understand that we cannot give generally valid prices for sweat gland removal. The costs of each treatment also depend on the personal starting situation and your wishes.
