What is an upper arm lift?

The goal of brachioplasty is to remove excess skin and fat from the upper arms, create firmer arms, eliminate so-called “bat wings” or angle arms, and reduce rashes or chafing caused by excess skin.

Many patients not only have sagging skin, but also excess fat. If this is the case, the upper arm lift is performed in combination with liposuction.

How does the upper arm lift work?

During the upper arm lift, I make an incision along the armpit or along the inner arm to tighten and reshape the upper arm. I determine the position and length of the incision, by the amount of excess skin that needs to be removed. If less skin needs to be removed, I can perform the procedure through a small incision in your armpit. For patients with tighter and minimal excess skin, liposuction alone can be used to reshape the arm. Liposuction is then performed through very small incisions that are well hidden on the arm.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia or twilight sleep. After the surgery, the recovery time is very fast and after only 1-2 hours you can leave your private patient room and retire to the privacy of your home.

Is the scar visible on the arm after the procedure?

I can very well understand that a visible scar on the arm is a major concern for you. I always make sure to create the shortest incision possible in the most inconspicuous place. This means that your scar will not be easily visible after your upper arm lift if you are wearing a tank top or swimsuit. It will only be visible when you lift your arms. What you won’t be able to see are the angled arms typical of older women and men.

Upper arm lift or liposuction?

The scars after liposuction are discreet, the recovery is fast and the results are very beautiful. Liposuction alone will remove excess fat, but cannot correct stretch marks or sagging skin. In these cases, upper arm lift may be the best option. A 2015 study, showed that liposuction using brachioplasty targeting the inner arms can provide satisfactory results and improve quality of life for patients with a lot of weight.

I will be very happy to advise you personally

In an initial, no-obligation consultation, I can show you the upper arm lift in detail and answer all your questions.

How quickly do I recover after an upper arm lift?

Following an upper arm lift, you will have some swelling and bruising, most of which will subside after two weeks. You will need to wear a special compression garment for a week until the arms tighten.

You can return to work after one week. However, I recommend that you do not lift anything heavy or exercise hard until your incisions are completely healed. You can start exercising again about two weeks after surgery.
