What is a chemical peeling?
Medical (deep) skin peels, performed by our medical estheticians, provide a deeper treatment of the skin’s layers to reduce lines and wrinkles and plump up the skin for more lasting results. A chemical peeling improves and supports the purity, filler and texture of your skin, leaving you with healthy skin that looks and actually is younger.
There are a number of factors that affect the appearance of your skin, including environment, lifestyle habits, and overall aging. To improve the texture and overall appearance of the skin, chemical peels remove the top layer to remove dead and damaged skin cells.
As the ingredients act on the skin, it gradually exfoliates from the top layer, activating the skin’s healing process and revealing a fresh, rejuvenated layer of skin. Chemical peels are available in light to medium strengths that can treat a variety of problems, including general discoloration, wrinkles, sun damage, flaky patches and acne.
How does a chemical peeling work?
Once we have diagnosed that your skin would benefit from a Chemical Peel, your skin will be prepped and a Chemical Peel will be selected based on your specific needs.
The average Chemical Peel takes no more than 15 minutes, and patients can return to work or everyday activities immediately after their treatment.
Once the chemical peel is applied to your skin, it will work for a few minutes. Once the outer layer is removed, the top layer of skin cells may flake off depending on the type of chemical peel used. Chemical peels do produce a slight tingling or burning sensation, but overall treatments are not painful.
Careful maintenance of your skin after chemical peeling is very important to protect the fresh new layer from environmental damage.
How many treatments do I need?
You will see results after the first treatment. However, we recommend several treatments, for maximum results.
Our chemical peelings usually consist of 3 to 5 sessions. One every 10 days to 2 weeks.
Depending on the extent of your problem or the size of the affected area, it may be necessary to have more than one type and/or more than one chemical peeling.
What happens after the treatment?
The beauty of our chemical peels is that there are very rarely any obvious signs of peeling. Generally, there is no swelling or redness after the peeling. However, your skin may feel a little drier than normal. This can be remedied by using skin care products. Sunscreens are recommended for daily use after sessions.
“A chemical peeling is a wonderful treatment for a freshness boost for your skin. As a stand-alone treatment or in combination with fillers, they act as boosters for skin quality.”
When will I see the results of the chemical peeling?
Depending on your specific skin type and problem, you may see results after just one chemical peeling. But the treatment plans are designed for a duration of 3 – 5 sessions, so then you will see the optimal effect.
