Couperose treatment with laser: against vascular diseases of the skin.

Couperosis is a vascular disease that, compared to rosacea, affects both large and small blood vessels (veins) and appears as localized redness in certain areas. Couperose treatment with IPL may not be as effective in cases where, large vessels are involved. Therefore, in my practice I offer the possibility of laser treatment with one of the most modern devices.

Treatment Overview

What is the couperose treatment?

The concept of laser treatment for vascular and skin problems is that the heat energy of the laser can penetrate under the skin and close the vein. In couperose treatment, the laser is able to collapse the dilated veins by shrinking them with precisely applied heat energy.

How painful is the treatment?

During couperose treatment, you may feel a slight burning or stinging sensation as the laser penetrates your skin. However, the pain is usually minimal and no anesthesia is required. For those with low pain tolerance, a numbing cream may be used.

How many treatments are needed?

Veins treated with laser usually require only one or two treatment sessions. However, the treatment time is limited to 30 minutes, so 2-4 treatments may be needed to treat all of them if you have a large area of the disease.

How long does it take to heal after couperose treatment?

You may notice redness and slight swelling of the treated area, which should disappear within a few days. Generally, the veins will turn a purple to light purple color and sometimes they may resemble a small bruise and then gradually fade over the next few weeks. I usually recommend ice packs to reduce the swelling. A second treatment may be needed for veins that have not completely disappeared. This occurs 6-8 weeks after the first visit.

Are the results of couperose treatment long term?

Although laser vein removal cannot eliminate all imperfections in the skin, most patients are satisfied with the results. After couperose treatment, the unsightly red veins are significantly diminished and the skin is returned to a more natural, even state. However, it is important to know that laser removal does not prevent the normal effects of aging and the treatment does not prevent the appearance of new vein dilation.
