Laser scar correction is a medical treatment used to reduce and in many cases make disappear signs of aging, skin imperfections and scars. I offer a wide range of different so-called ablative and non-ablative laser treatments for you to choose from. With these, I can improve and flatten particularly raised scars.
The laser procedure itself takes about 30 minutes on average, but can take up to 1.5 hours for a more extensive treatment and more surface area. Patients may choose to have topical anesthesia applied to reduce discomfort, although this is usually not necessary as the treatment is very well tolerated. The treatment method depends on the laser treatment chosen. There is no physical downtime with this procedure, however, there is what I refer to as “social” downtime during which the skin heals.
Ablative or invasive lasers remove the damaged surface layers of the skin, i.e. the scar, while non-ablative and fractional lasers remove little to no skin and focus exclusively on the body’s ability to heal itself by stimulating collagen production. This is how the skin repairs itself. Both forms of treatment are very effective in treating and significantly improving raised scars. Depending on your specific needs and expectations, I can recommend the best treatment options for you.
The treatment reduces the scar tissue through the heat and promotes collagen production around the capillaries of the skin, which improves the youthful appearance of the skin and can also help to reduce the raised scar. The procedure begins to take effect after about 2 to 3 weeks after the first treatment, at which point the new collagen is produced, with the full effect becoming visible after a month. Having scars treated with laser is a short and almost painless therapy.
In an initial, no-obligation consultation, I can show you the laser scar treatment in detail and answer all your questions.
While virtually everyone wants to revitalize their appearance, scar correction is not necessarily the right treatment for everyone. For example, for patients with acne scars or sunken scars, this type of therapy is not the best solution. In these cases we have to use dermaabrasion, microneedling or fillers to treat the scars. A so-called hypertrophic, or protruding, scar, on the other hand, is very suitable for such a treatment with laser.
Four to five treatment sessions are usually sufficient to have scars treated with laser, although I often recommend additional treatments to achieve optimal results, especially for excessively raised scars. However, this is always dependent on your, individual expectations and your skin’s response to this therapy. Results vary with each patient, but I see significant improvement in the condition especially when I combine the treatment with silicone gels or cortizone injections at the scar site. In addition to laser treatment of a scar, additional treatment with IPL can reduce the PIgmentation of the scar and improve the color of dark, reddish scars.
“Laser therapy is considered particularly effective against raised scars. However, your individual wishes and expectations are decisive in determining which procedure I choose.”
In my practice, your well-being and an optimal result is our top priority. Each patient has an individuality whose needs are the focus of my treatments. Therefore, it is not always possible to give a general estimate of the costs. Therefore, please understand that we cannot give generally valid prices for laser scar treatment. The cost of each treatment also depends on the personal starting situation and your wishes.
