Treatment Overview

What is SHR Laser Hair Removal?

The laser system uses targeted flashes of light to block the regrowth of the hair follicle. These treatments do not damage the surrounding tissue. The laser SHR hair removal simultaneously targets numerous hair follicles, so large areas can be treated quickly and effectively.

At our clinic, we offer the latest SHR hair removal treatment technology to remove unwanted hair all over the body very effectively. It is a non-invasive method that deactivates the hair structure without damaging the surrounding skin. SHR laser hair removal works by applying controlled pulses of energy into the hair follicles under the skin. This pulse destroys the hair follicle without damaging the skin around it.

How does the SHR laser remove hair?

In SHR hair removal, the laser targets the pigment in the hair follicle and hairline. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle and this energy is converted into heat, causing damage to the hair follicle. This damage causes delayed hair regrowth and in most cases permanent destruction of many hair follicles. Unlike electrolysis, which kills one hair follicle at a time, laser reaches and treats hundreds of follicles simultaneously.

What are the advantages of SHR hair removal?

With SHR laser technology I can remove hair faster, more gently and less painfully. With SHR technology, the hair removal method, which includes the hair pigment, uses only 50 percent of the energy for permanent hair removal. The remaining 50 percent is absorbed during the treatment with SHR technology in the stem cells that are responsible for hair production by the skin. In this way, you do not need single pulses of high energy to have a good result. The skin is treated with six to ten times lower energy, but with high frequency. With the help of SHR technology, the skin is gently heated with low energy (48 degrees) but high frequency through the melanin and stem cells. In this way, even the finest hairs can be better treated and permanently removed. With IPL technology, the skin is heated up to 70 degrees.

With the new cooling head of my device, your skin is cooled first before the laser beam, so you don’t really feel the heat of the laser. The procedure doesn’t hurt much this way, you will feel it more like a sting which lasts no more than a few milliseconds.

Are there any risks with SHR hair removal with laser?

Risks such as blistering, scarring and burning, are a thing of the past with SHR hair removal. Mild redness is normal and is a desired clinical result indicating that the follicle has responded to the treatment. This response typically disappears within hours. The appearance of the treated area immediately after treatment typically varies from patient to patient, depending on the extent of the procedure and skin type. Limiting sun exposure before and after each treatment minimizes the risk of complications.

Is SHR laser hair removal right for me?

The ideal type for most hair removal lasers has dark hair and light skin. Darker hair absorbs more laser light and lighter skin allows more transmission of the laser light into the hair follicle. Although dark or tanned skin is at higher risk for pigment changes after the procedure, I can treat most skin types with the range of lasers available.

Treatment time depends on the area being treated. Each hair follicle is sclerosed within a millisecond, so a small area (such as underarms) may take less than five minutes, while a larger area (such as legs) may take half an hour.

Does SHR hair removal with laser remove hair in the long term?

Yes. Scientific studies show that the use of SHR laser for hair removal actually damages or destroys hair follicles at the cellular level. After each treatment, a permanent reduction in regrowth of hair is usually achieved.

The most important thing in permanent hair removal is choosing the right laser for your skin type to have the most effective result without complications like concealment. For this reason, a laser-certified physician should also be the one to examine you and determine which laser is best. For example, some medications, like antibiotics, can make your skin sensitive to the laser. I need to know what medications you should not take while you are having laser hair removal.

How many treatments are needed?

The average number of treatments varies from person to person, but 5-7 treatments 3-4 weeks apart is the average number for most.

Usually after three or four treatments, my patients already see a tremendous reduction in hair. In total, up to six treatment sessions are needed to fully treat a body area. Which body area or locations are treated also affect the repetitions needed and the time: legs, for example, respond much more quickly to the laser than the face.

The only place to avoid is around the eyes – eyebrows, upper cheeks and temples should not be treated – due to the risk of eye damage from the laser.

Diode SHR laser hair removal works in my practice on almost any skin type – from very fair-skinned people to very dark-skinned (or Type I on the Fitzpatrick scale to Type V or even VI – dark skin). Since the diode laser targets the hair root, the effectiveness of the treatment does not depend on your skin color.

However, I do take into account that different skin types sometimes require different approaches to laser hair removal. Unlike other clinics or hair removal studios, I have very different hair removal technologies available in my practice. I have three state-of-the-art lasers that can remove unwanted hair for all types, from the lightest to the darkest complexions. I use diode, Nd-Yag and IPL technologies to ensure your laser treatments are appropriate for your specific skin type.

FAQ

What is SHR hair removal?

SHR (Super Hair Removal) is a modern technology designed to remove unwanted hair faster and more comfortably than traditional hair removal methods. It uses low fluence repetitive light pulses targeting the hair follicles, which allows for a painless treatment suitable for all skin types. The process is gentle and can effectively reduce hair on any body part.

How does SHR hair removal work?

SHR technology gradually heats the skin to a temperature that effectively damages the hair follicles and prevents hair regrowth, while avoiding injury to the surrounding skin. The applicator moves over the treatment area multiple times delivering low energy pulses at a high repetition rate. This ensures comprehensive coverage and increases the effectiveness of the treatment.

Is SHR hair removal painful?

SHR hair removal treatments are generally painless, as the technology uses a low heat setting spread out over several pulses, which minimizes discomfort. Many patients describe the sensation as a warm massage. This makes SHR a preferred option for those who find traditional laser hair removal uncomfortable.

What areas can be treated with SHR hair removal?

SHR is versatile and can be used to remove hair from almost any part of the body, including the face, legs, arms, underarms, back, and bikini area. It is effective on all hair types and is gentle enough to be used on sensitive skin.

How many sessions are required for SHR hair removal?

The number of SHR hair removal sessions varies depending on the individual’s hair growth cycle, density, and the area being treated. Generally, most patients require 6 to 10 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart to achieve optimal results.

Can SHR hair removal work on different skin tones?

Yes, SHR hair removal is effective on all skin tones, including darker skin, which is often a limitation with traditional laser hair removal technologies. SHR’s unique method of gradual heating ensures safe and effective treatment for every skin type without the risk of burns.

What is the downtime after SHR hair removal treatment?

There is typically no downtime following an SHR hair removal session. Patients can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment. Some mild redness or swelling may occur but usually subsides within a few hours.

How long do results from SHR hair removal last?

After completing the recommended number of treatment sessions, results from SHR hair removal can be long-lasting. Hair growth will be significantly reduced, and any hair that regrows tends to be finer and lighter. Periodic maintenance sessions may be necessary to maintain the results.

Is SHR hair removal safe?

Yes, SHR hair removal is safe when performed by a trained and experienced practitioner. The technology has been extensively tested and proven to be effective and safe for hair reduction on any skin type.

What should I do before my SHR hair removal appointment?

Before an SHR hair removal treatment, you should avoid sun exposure, tanning treatments, and waxing for at least two weeks. It’s also important to shave the area to be treated 24-48 hours before the session to ensure the laser targets the hair follicle effectively.

What is the difference between SHR and traditional laser hair removal?

SHR uses a lower energy setting but a higher frequency of pulses than traditional laser treatments, making it safer and more comfortable. Unlike traditional lasers that may deliver more intense heat in a single pulse, SHR distributes the energy over multiple pulses to gently heat the follicles, reducing the risk of skin damage.

Can I go out in the sun after an SHR treatment?

After SHR treatment, it’s advisable to avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least a week. If you need to be outdoors, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF to protect the treated area from UV damage.

How quickly will I see results from SHR hair removal?

Some patients may notice reduced hair growth after the first session, but significant results are usually visible after three to four treatments. Hair will become finer and growth will slow down as you continue with more sessions.

What are the common side effects of SHR hair removal?

The most common side effects of SHR hair removal include slight redness and swelling around the treated areas, which typically resolve within a few hours. The treatment is low-risk and does not typically cause more severe side effects

Why choose SHR over other hair removal methods?

SHR hair removal offers a faster, safer, and more pain-free experience compared to traditional laser hair removal methods. It’s suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and can treat large areas effectively with minimal discomfort. This makes it a popular choice for those seeking efficient and effective hair removal solutions.
