RF Microneedling: The latest therapy for skin rejuvenation

Radiofrequency Microneedling (RF Microneedling) is a popular procedure that can safely and effectively target a variety of skin concerns. It combines the innovative Microneedling procedure with radiofrequency (RF) and takes skin rejuvenation to the next level.

Treatment Overview

Was ist RF Microneedling?

In traditional microneedling, I use a special device that causes micro-injuries in the skin and stimulates the body’s own healing process. The radiofrequency microneedling treatment is an innovation in aesthetics as radio frequency energy is added to the traditional microneedling procedure. The RF energy is delivered through small needles. In addition to the benefits associated with micro-injury from the needles, radiofrequency microneedling also delivers RF energy deep into the dermis, further enhancing skin tightening, scar and fine lines reduction, improving skin quality. The RF energy heats the underlying layers, causing constriction and tightening of the skin, as well as stimulation of collagen and elastin production. Because the RF energy is delivered so deeply, it can provide faster and more effective results.

How does the RF Microneedling treatment work?

Before the RF microneedling, a local anesthetic is applied to the skin to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. The treatment usually takes 45 minutes and is somewhat dependent on the size of the treatment area.

During the microneedling treatment, the beam of radiofrequency is delivered specifically to the dermis via small needles on the skin and stimulates collagen and elastin production.

The skin is slightly red for the first day after treatment, but the redness is typically much less than with laser treatments. There is little or no discomfort after the procedure and you are usually able to return to your normal activities within a day. Makeup may be applied a few hours after the procedure to cover redness. Three weeks post-intervention, the epidermis improves impressively and you experience fresher skin quality.

What is the advantage of RF microneedling over lasertherapy?

Laser resurfacing has been used in aesthetics for skin rejuvenation for over 20 years. Today, CO2 laser resurfacing is still considered the most effective method for skin rejuvenation, but is associated with some social downtime. Fractional laser resurfacing, however, developed more than a decade ago, is associated with faster recovery and fewer complications than the fully ablative laser.

Fractional RF microneedling is the most promising new technology for aesthetic treatments, combining two methods previously used individually for skin rejuvenation into a more clinically effective procedure. This new treatment can deliver similar results to ablative laser methods, but with significantly less discomfort and downtime. It has been shown to be very effective in tightening skin, fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, acne and acne scars both on and off the face. However, patients should know that it takes more sessions than laser resurfacing for the same result.

Below is a brief overview of the 4 biggest benefits of this exciting treatment compared to its predecessors.

  1. It is suitable for all skin types
  2. It can treat active acne and acne scars
  3. It is a better way to tighten the skin
  4. It can be easily used on the neck and body

Am I a candidate for RF microneedling?

Compared to fractional laser, RF Microneedling is suitable for almost any skin type and tone. The procedure treats fine lines and facial wrinkles, scarring from acne and chicken pox, mild to moderate skin laxity, and irregular skin texture. Many of my patients complement this skin rejuvenation procedure with Dr. Kelly® Nxt Gen Liquid Face Lift, a thread lift, filler treatments and very often with fractional laser.

Micro-needles penetrate the skin and bring RF energy deep into the dermis

How many treatments are needed?

RF Microneedling is considered a revolution among anti-aging methods, even after one treatment a result is already noticeable. For most patients I work with 2 or 3 sessions about 4 weeks apart to achieve the full effect. The number of treatments needed for you depends very much on how well you respond to the treatment and how much the skin problems need to be treated.

“I include RF Microneedling in every skin rejuvenation customised plan for my patients, as I am personally convinced by the effectiveness of the treatment.”
