Liposuction is the most effective method of shaping the body in areas where nutrition and exercise have failed.

By selectively removing excess fat deposits through a tiny suction tube I can achieve dramatic results of fat reduction in problem areas. Liposuction flattens the abdomen, reduces the girth of hips, thighs and buttocks, slims the waist and wrists and reduces obese bulges and fat on the knees, neck and arms.

There are two major advantages of liposuction: First of all, liposuction removes unwanted fat from the abdomen, face and/or body to give you the slimmer, firmer shape you want. But the biggest advantage is that the fat cells that are removed during the operation do not grow back. This means that if you gain weight after the operation, it will not concentrate in your previous “problem areas” – the fat will be distributed more evenly. Even if you gain weight after the operation, your treated areas will always look better than if you had not performed the operation at all.

Can I improve my figure through liposuction?

In short: anyone can remove fat. However, you must remember that liposuction is not a successful weight loss remedy. It is ideal for stubborn fat deposits or problem areas (stomach, thighs, legs, arms). The most remarkable results are achieved in patients who exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet.

You do not necessarily have to be in a normal BMI range. Some obese patients also achieve remarkable results. If you have a stable weight but persistent fat deposits that simply do not respond to diet and exercise, liposuction can be performed safely to achieve the desired results. However, you should have realistic expectations as to what liposuction can do for you. Therefore it is important that you and I discuss the possibilities and limits of the procedure in detail in all consultations.

Will my weight be reduced by liposuction?

Liposuction generally does not cause weight loss. It is also not effective in treating cellulite on thighs and should not replace training and a proper diet. It is intended for relatively healthy, fit people who need a little help to achieve a slimmer, attractively proportioned body. The amount of fat that is removed has no significant effect on your weight. If you want to lose weight, you should consider healthy changes in your lifestyle and diet.

Which method of liposuction is used in your practice?

In my practice I only use the method that really guarantees success and the operation that affects the body the least. This is the so-called Water-Assisted Liposuction (WAL). There is extensive research and study about this type of liposuction to investigate its effectiveness. These confirm my experience that the WAL is the most tolerable and gentle liposuction method.

This technique involves injecting the target region with a large amount of an aqueous anesthetic solution containing NaCl (table salt) and anesthetics. This dissolves the fat very nicely and allows a very efficient fat removal. As a result, I do not have to insert and puncture the cannula so often in the treated area and protect the body from unnecessary injuries. So I get less bleeding and less bruising, which means shorter recovery times and faster results.

"Liposuction is by far the best way to get rid of unwanted fat. Liposuction helps you lose problem areas and get a harmonious, well-proportioned body."

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure will be performed under local anesthesia or local anesthesia along with intravenous sedation (if desired) on an outpatient basis in my practice operating room.

I make a small (and very inconspicuous) incision in the area of liposuction. A large amount of anesthetic solution is injected into the area, making the fat swollen and firm. This allows the liposuction cannula to get smooth under the skin with a thin tube. With pulling and pushing movements of the cannula I remove the fat under the skin and suck it off at the same moment.

How much fat is usually removed?

The amount of grease to be removed must be very accurate. This allows for an aesthetically pleasing contour that complements your overall body image. If too little is removed, these bulges will still be visible to you. If too much is removed, strange craters and unnatural pockets appear that interfere with the smooth surface of your skin. Excessive fat removal can also lead to flaccid skin, which would require a skin tightening.

I always look at your face and body contours as a whole and not in individual sections. In this way I can measure more accurately the amount of fat to be removed. I evaluate your natural proportions and what makes the improvement seem most harmonious. Therefore there are no under- or overcorrections in my patients.

What happens after surgery?

You will be able to work again after 2-3 days. Light activities can be resumed after just one week. Especially strength training, but also other strenuous activities, you have to give up about a month.

In the period up to 4-6 weeks after the operation you must wear a compression garment (panty, body or similar) to reduce swelling and bruising. The garment also helps your skin get used to the new, slimmer contour.

Will I need a skin tightening operation after liposuction?

Depending on the extent of excess skin and laxity of the abdomen, some patients may benefit from a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. Liposuction alone will remove excess fat, but will not tighten the skin, remove stretch marks, fix rectal diastasis (enlargement of the rectal muscles) or remove overhanging skin.

Which areas of the body can be liposucted?

The most common areas in women I treat are the so-called breeches (outer thigh sides), inner thigh and knee, flanks and buttocks, stomach (upper and lower abdomen), back (upper), lower leg, and neck and double chin. Men often want liposuction on the chest, the abdominal area and the “lovehandles” (flanks).

When will I see the result?

Although you will notice a difference in your body immediately after the operation, the change becomes clearer after 4-6 weeks after the swelling has subsided. The final results are achieved approximately 6 months after the procedure.

Is the result permanent?

Liposuction removes unwanted fat cells permanently. Weight gain after the operation may cause the operated area to grow overall, but your entire body contour will look more balanced.

A picture says more than a million words

In order to protect the privacy of my patients, I deliberately refrain from showing before and after pictures on my website. However, several patients have agreed that their photos can be viewed by potential patients in the practice. During your consultation you will have the opportunity to view images of real patients and the results of my procedures. Some patients have also agreed to talk to potential patients if you want to learn more about the procedure from a patient’s perspective.
