Tummy Tuck: A procedure after which you will look and feel good.

When we get older, our body gradually stops producing collagen and elastin. Without a good supply of collagen and elastin, the abdominal skin weakens and becomes less elastic. This means that the skin cannot return to its original form after pregnancy or if you have lost a lot of weight, for example. In addition, pregnancy can also cause your abdominal muscles to become severely weakened (rectus diastasis). In such cases I present my patients with a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) as a solution that removes stubborn fat from the abdomen, tightens the belly (the sagging abdominal skin) and repairs the separated abdominal muscles if necessary.

A tummy tuck is a cosmetic surgical procedure that tightens and flattens the abdomen by removing skin and fat and re-tensioning loose abdominal muscles to correct diastasis (cleavage) of the muscles.

How is such an operation performed?

The tummy tuck is an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. I separate the tissue from the underlying muscles and rejoin the straight abdominal muscles by suturing the muscles. This suture keeps your restored abdominal muscles in a tightened position. Loose excess skin is removed before the rest of the skin is tightened. The belly button is sewn in offset. Finally I close the incision in several layers and cover the treated area with bandages.  You will receive a customized compression garment for additional support of the operated region. span>

For some women the problem of sagging skin is more in the lower abdomen. For these women, a mini-abdominoplasty may be an excellent option. This operation involves the removal of a smaller ellipse of the abdominal skin without umbilical repositioning to remove less excess skin, allowing for a shorter scar. span>

Some women develop an umbilical hernia from pregnancy. You may have noticed that your belly button comes out a little after your children are born. This is probably due to a small hole in the abdominal wall where the inner fat is pressed outwards. Umbilical hernia can be easily corrected during muscle repair.

The sagging abdominal skin is tightened and gives you a lean, flat stomach

"It can be so discouraging to work hard on the strength of your stomach muscels, but not to see an improvement in all your efforts. Because it's not necessarily your fault, seek advice on surgical solutions to the problem."

Do I need a mini or large tummy tuck?

This is a question that can only be answered if you see me in your initial consultation. I will assess your belly, skin quality and shape to determine which technique will achieve your goals.

I don't have much sagging skin or fat, but I still have a bulging stomach. Can I still get a tummy tuck?

Can I do the surgery if I have a high BMI?

I do not use the BMI as the way to determine for whom the operation is suitable or not, because I consider it an inaccurate method for weight measurement. The BMI does not take other factors into account, such as your bone structure or how muscular you are. Instead, I always examine the unique body type and listen to your wishes.

Can I get an abdominoplasty where only skin is removed?

Yes, you can get an abdominoplasty where only skin is removed if your problem is only a flaccid skin. This method works very well, especially after pregnancy.

Wie kann ich meine Bauchhaut ohne Operation straffen?

Unfortunately it is very difficult, if not impossible, to tighten abdominal skin without surgery. There are non-surgical options, but the results are not so predictable. Especially if you want to tighten the stomach after pregnancy, tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is the best option.

Why can't I just get liposuction?

The liposuction only serves to remove excess fat. It does not tighten the skin sufficiently, despite the claims of some surgeons. An excision is necessary to tighten the skin, and an abdominoplasty is intended for this purpose.

Can I get rid of stretch marks with a tummy tuck?

My patients often ask me to do an abdominoplasty to remove stretch marks. Normally stretch marks can be removed under the belly button, but often not in their entirety. Stretch marks above the navel, in the upper part of the abdomen or on the flanks cannot be removed.

Where will my scar be?

Usually the scar is placed very low after an abdominoplasty so that it remains hidden by underwear or a bikini. An abdominoplasty without scar is impossible, but the abdominoplasty scar will be invisible when you wear your clothes.

Is a tummy tuck painful? How painful is the recovery after an abdominoplasty?

A tummy tuck can cause more discomfort than other procedures, especially when a muscle correction is performed. Therefore it is important that we go through all steps of the operation in the preliminary discussion and I explain the postoperative behaviour in detail. Of course you will receive painkillers to alleviate discomfort in the first days.

How permanent are the results?

The results should be long-lasting but may change due to weight fluctuations, pregnancy and natural aging. Although the results are immediately obvious, they will continue to improve as the swelling subsides and your new, firmer silhouette appears. span>

What happens if I gain weight after the operation?

If you gain weight after a tummy tuck abdominoplasty, your results may be negatively affected and you may lose your tightened stomach. Please follow a healthy lifestyle to get your results.

What happens if I get pregnant after the operation? Can I have a baby after a tummy tuck?

Of course you can have a child. However, as in the case of weight gain, the results of abdominoplasty can be negative if you become pregnant after abdominoplasty. I always recommend that women consider to tighten their belly after they stop planning children. In fact, abdominoplasty is a common postpartum surgery.

A pictures says more than a million words

In order to protect the privacy of my patients, I deliberately refrain from showing before and after pictures on my website. However, several patients have agreed that their photos can be viewed by potential patients in the practice. During your consultation you will have the opportunity to view images of real patients and the results of my procedures. Some patients have also agreed to talk to potential patients if you want to learn more about the procedure from a patient’s perspective.
