"Many people find larger breasts aesthetically pleasing. However, a large breast can be a great physical and psychological burden for a woman."
Breast reduction reduces your breast size and enhances your quality of life.
Of all the cosmetic surgical procedures I perform, breast reduction is probably the one that helps my patients most to improve their lives. This is because this operation can improve not only the appearance but also the health, physical condition and comfort of patients.
Breast reduction removes fat, breast tissue and skin from the breast to create a smaller breast that is proportional to your body. The operation, also known as reduction surgery, reduces the size and weight of your breast. This will relieve your pain and discomfort. You will also notice an aesthetic improvement in shape and strength of your breasts. The result is a proportional body profile that you will love and enjoy.
How do I know if I can have a breast reduction?
If large, uneven breasts interfere with your daily lifestyle, you should consider breast reduction. Many patients complain of back, shoulder and neck pain, irritation or infection under their breasts, difficulty finding appropriate clothing and bras, posture problems and social anxiety associated with overdeveloped breasts.
At what age would you suggest that I decide to undergo this procedure
Women of all ages can benefit from breast reduction. Young people, mothers and older women who benefit from this operation come to my practice. If patients are adolescents, it is important that they have a regular menstrual cycle and a stable breast size in the six months prior to surgery. Due to the great satisfaction of my teenage patients, I also see no reason to wait for women in their twenties to perform the procedure.
How can I choose the desired breast size?
During our meetings I will ask you questions about your desired size. Many of my patients are afraid that the breast will look too small after the procedure, and some others want their breasts as small as possible. Although a large part of the decision is based on the geometry of your body, your personal wishes are of enormous importance. The focus of the procedure is less on achieving an exact cup size and more on alleviating painful symptoms and improving the shape of the breast. The results of a breast reduction are immediately visible, but the contour of your breasts will continue to improve over the next six to twelve months as the swelling subsides to achieve a more balanced and comfortable appearance.
Where does the incision or scar run?
I prefer a vertical Lejour incision for a breast reduction like a breast lift. In this procedure, the skin is only removed from the lower part of the breast to avoid scars on the upper side of the breast above the nipple height. Vertical incision includes a circle around the nipple and a straight line from the nipple to the base of the breast.
What is the postoperative period like?
After the procedure you will wear a support bra for 6 weeks. Most patients only need painkillers in the first days after the operation and return to work after one week. You can resume light everyday activities one day after the operation and resume sports four weeks after the operation.
Can I breastfeed normally after such an operation?
Women who can breastfeed before surgery can continue to breastfeed later. Although the amount of milk-producing glandular tissue is reduced, the ductal system with which the milk is transported to the nipple remains. Patient inks that require less breast surgery are likely to have fewer changes in milk production.
Is it true that after a breast reduction you can lose the feeling on your nipple?
I take all precautions to keep the nipple feeling. The removal of the breast tissue and the resulting swelling after the procedure can temporarily reduce or intensify the feeling. This irritation often disappears during the time when the swelling decreases. The total loss of sensation occurs more frequently with larger reductions, but is fortunately not usual.
How permanent are the results?
The results should be long-term, but weight changes, pregnancy, menopause and natural aging can change the appearance of the breasts again. However, it is rare for patients to have a second breast reduction, as most patients are satisfied with the initial reduction.
A picture says more than a million words
In order to protect the privacy of my patients, I deliberately refrain from showing before and after pictures on my website. However, several patients have agreed that their photos can be viewed by potential patients in the practice. During your consultation you will have the opportunity to view images of real patients and the results of my procedures. Some patients have also agreed to talk to potential patients if you want to learn more about the procedure from a patient’s perspective.
