Micro- or nanofat: a new era in aesthetic medicine

The terms vary: autologous fat grafting, fat transfer, micro fat grafting, ALMI, nano fat grafting, micronized injection or nano fat transfer.

However, the process is always the same. I extract the fat from one part of the body and then inject it into another part as a “graft”. The procedure has a good indication when you want to replace the volume in the graft area to restore the contour or shape in the area. This is especially effective on the face (wrinkle injection) or against dark circles under the eyes.

By fat aspiration, or liposuction, which is a very simple painless procedure and takes about 30 minutes, I remove fat from your body. I perform it under local anesthesia and transfer the fat immediately afterwards. There are no significant risks associated with this procedure.

The fat is usually suctioned from the lower abdominal muscles or the legs if it is used on the face.

After I remove the fat, it is centrifuged to separate the micro fat from other fluids. Then, to obtain the nano-fat, the micro-fat is emulsified under sterile conditions and a special Japanese tecknik. In addition, I sometimes enrich the nano-fat with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cells to improve the longevity and effectiveness of the results.

Injection with nanofat, in addition to adding volume and creating contours, has the added value of rejuvenating the overlying skin. The reason for this is that the patient’s own fat is rich in mesenchymal stem cells.
Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AdMSC) are critical in tissue regeneration and repair. The size of the graft and its components determines whether a graft is a micro or nano fat. The method of preparation and the effect of the graft is variable. fat grafting (nano fat transfer) uses thin injection cannulas for a finer effect. The fat used for this treatment is processed into a more refined fat graft called “nano fat”.

Treatments include filling bags under the eyes, dark circles, fine lines around the mouth (wrinkle injections), breasts, buttocks and general skin rejuvenation, where fine lines and thinning of the skin are detectable. The indications for fat transfer are constantly increasing.

Autologous fat grafting is an excellent alternative to traditional treatments with derma fillers or other implants. Nanofat treatment for wrinkle injections is safe and effective, does not cause any allergic reaction and can be performed on an outpatient basis in my office. Additionally, the results after this procedure last much longer than traditional methods because they stimulate regenerative processes, such as natural collagen production at the molecular level. The long-lasting results are also due to the fact that the patient’s own fat is biocompatible and is very well accepted by the body.

The result after autologous fat grafting varies from patient to patient and can last up to 3 years.
