Modern, safe and effective teeth whitening with LED

Tooth discoloration can occur, among other things, due to the consumption of highly discoloring foods, such as red wine, nicotine, coffee, tea and curry. In addition to normal oral hygiene and regular professional dental cleanings, teeth can be whitened today thanks to modern technologies. I only offer teeth whitening with a blue LED lamp because it is the safest, longest lasting and most cost-effective of all whitening methods. White teeth are permanently achievable with it.

What is teeth whitening with LED?

Teeth whitening works in such a way by treating the teeth with an agent based on a bleaching agent. To speed up the reaction, a blue light source is then directed at the treated teeth. In the past, ultraviolet light (UV light) was often used as a light source. However, there are concerns about the risks of using UV light. UV light is a form of ionizing radiation that can cause mutation of cells and possibly cancer. This is of particular concern in the mouth because oral tissues are very sensitive.

LED can be used in place of UV light as a safer alternative. Blue LED light can also be used to accelerate the whitening reaction, but without the risks of UV light.

What is LED light and why is it used in teeth whitening?

The abbreviation LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. The LED lamps emit a form of visible light. Therefore, it is not a form of ionizing radiation, which means that it cannot cause cell mutations and therefore cancer. LED radiation is a safer alternative to UV light for use in teeth whitening procedures.

LED light works in conjunction with what is called a whitening agent. The LED light does not change the color of your teeth when used alone. However, it acts as a catalyst to speed up reactions when used with a bleaching agent. The bleaching agent is usually hydrogen peroxide, a slow-acting bleaching agent that reacts and breaks down into hydrogen peroxide and urea when applied to the teeth. The hydrogen peroxide removes surface stains and deeper discolorations by changing their chemical structure.

The fact that LED light accelerates the healing process of teeth is currently proven by many scientific studies.

Are the teeth and gums more sensitive after teeth whitening?

You will notice that your teeth temporarily become slightly more sensitive after LED teeth whitening. This sensitivity lasts for about 2-3 days.

When the bleaching agent comes into contact with the sensitive tissues of the mouth, such as the tongue or gums, they can become a little irritated. We avoid this side effect by using special protective agents for the gums before bleaching.

What are the results after teeth whitening?

For anyone who wants to have their teeth whitened this is perhaps the most important question. However, the results of whitening are always individual and based on the causes of discoloration of the teeth.

The severity of the discoloration of the teeth affects the possible outcome. Very yellow teeth may require more treatments; however, it is important not to over-treat your teeth. Try to look at the natural color of your teeth objectively and be realistic about the color you want and can achieve.

Is the result after teeth whitening permanent?

Due to the nature of tooth discoloration, no whitening method will ever be permanent. Different factors, such as lifestyle and genetic predisposition, accelerate or slow down the process.

How often can the treatment be repeated?

By using special bleaching agents, which are very tooth-friendly, you can repeat the treatment every three months in my practice. If you want a permanent white result and white teeth this is recommended.
