\n Botox<\/a>
\n and
\n fillers<\/a>
\n appears to be fading. More and more people \u2013 including younger patients \u2013 are turning to
\n facelift surgery<\/a>.
\n A surgeon explains what a facelift can achieve and where its limits lie.\n <\/p>\n

\n Dr. Kelly Vasileiadou\u2019s Clinic for Plastic Surgery in Zug has seen a remarkable
\n 113 percent increase<\/strong> in facelifts performed over the past year.
\n Not only are patient numbers rising, but the average age is dropping.
\n Most patients are women. \u201cWe have noticed this shift for two to three years now.
\n Some of our patients are barely 40,\u201d says Dr. Kelly.
\n In Hollywood, tight and youthful faces are also trending: surgeons speculate that Christina Aguilera (44)
\n and Lindsay Lohan (39) may have had facelifts. Even Kylie Jenner, at only 28, faces similar rumours.
\n None of the three has confirmed any procedures.\n <\/p>\n

Where does this trend come from?<\/h2>\n

\n \u201cIn the past, facelifts were the only effective method of facial rejuvenation,\u201d explains Dr. Kelly.
\n \u201cWhen Botox, fillers and modern skin treatments became popular, no one wanted a facelift anymore \u2013
\n especially in Switzerland, where people prefer a subtle and understated look.\u201d
\n Over time, however, it became clear that minimally invasive treatments reach their limits.
\n \u201cPeople who keep getting more fillers often end up with an overfilled face that looks heavy, still sags,
\n and appears unnatural. Many develop so-called \u2018filler fatigue\u2019. Botox and hyaluronic acid do not tighten the tissue.
\n For true improvement, a facelift is often the better option.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

Which facelift methods exist?<\/h2>\n

\n \u201cPatients in their early 40s often ask for a mini-facelift,\u201d says Dr. Kelly.
\n The term is not protected, and each clinic defines it differently.
\n \u201cIn our clinic, we remove excess skin using minimal, hidden incisions.
\n The result is natural, and the effect lasts between five and eight years \u2013
\n although skin ageing continues.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n The alternative is the deep-plane facelift. \u201cThese patients are usually between 45 and 55,\u201d Dr. Kelly explains.
\n This method lifts deeper structures and the underlying musculature.
\n \u201cThe skin itself is hardly manipulated, which is why the results look very natural over time.\u201d
\n The incisions are placed in front of and behind the ear and along the hairline at the temples.
\n \u201cWhen positioned correctly, they are discreet and hardly visible.\u201d
\n The effect lasts at least ten years \u2013 with proper skincare, even 15 to 20 years.
\n \u201cAfter that, one can decide whether another procedure is desired.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

Downtime and recovery<\/h2>\n

\n \u201cThe downtime after a deep-plane facelift is about seven to ten days,
\n during which the face may be swollen or slightly bruised,\u201d says Dr. Kelly.
\n Bruising is often minimal. \u201cWe work with extremely fine instruments and operate deep beneath the skin,
\n so many patients do not develop bruises at all.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

What results can you expect?<\/h2>\n

\n \u201cA well-performed facelift should not make you look like a different person \u2013
\n if it does, something went wrong,\u201d says Dr. Kelly.
\n Deep anatomical knowledge and surgical experience are essential.
\n \u201cNatural facial expressions and muscle movement must remain fully intact.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cA facelift cannot and should not turn back time in an unrealistic way.
\n No one comes in saying: \u2018Make me look 20 years younger.\u2019
\n Patients today simply want to look good, fresh and well-rested for their age,\u201d she explains.\n <\/p>\n

\n For optimal results, Dr. Kelly often combines the facelift with
\n fat grafting<\/a>
\n and
\n laser resurfacing<\/a>.
\n \u201cLaser resurfacing removes very fine layers of skin during the same operation, improving the skin texture.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

Risks and aftercare<\/h2>\n

\n As with any operation, postoperative bleeding, bruising or inflammation may occur.
\n Rarely, temporary nerve irritation is possible.
\n Dr. Kelly highlights the importance of a structured follow-up plan:
\n \u201cThe first check happens one to two days after surgery.
\n After that, patients return weekly for six weeks to optimise healing and scar quality.
\n The final check-up takes place six months after the facelift.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Modern supportive treatments such as lymphatic drainage, LED therapy and anti-inflammatory medical skincare
\n can accelerate the healing process.\n <\/p>\n

How much does a facelift cost?<\/h2>\n

\n In the Dr. Kelly\u00ae Clinic in Zug, the approximate prices are:

\u2013 Mini-facelift: CHF 15,000

\u2013 Deep-plane facelift: CHF 19,000
\n
