Skin Rejuvenation: Peels, Lasers and Beyond
Aesthetic medicine has a wide range of methods for rejuvenating your skin. As an experienced cosmetic surgeon in Switzerland, I know this only too well. I therefore believe it is all the more important to explain the differences between the various methods of skin rejuvenation to you in the following article.
First of all: There are basically three types of treatment. The skin can be treated in invasive, minimally invasive and non-invasive ways. Depending on the area of the body, your skin condition, skin type, age, your individual goals and your preferences, some procedures make more sense, others less.
Which skin areas and body parts are suitable?
Skin rejuvenation can generally be carried out on very different areas of the body. Many of my patients of advanced age, for example, opt for a treatment of their face, neck and décolleté as well as their hands because they want to prevent the first signs of ageing, such as wrinkles and spots.
Facial skin rejuvenation can, for example, make fine lines and age spots disappear and restore a radiant, more youthful facial expression. The decollete, often severely depleted by sun exposure, can also be tightened and freed from pigmentation disorders within the scope of skin rejuvenation. On your hands peelings and laser treatments can have a positive effect on your skin appearance.
Chin or neck can also be corrected. To this end, I will most likely recommend using lifting methods or non-invasive radiofrequency therapy. These are simple ways of tightening and contouring the skin.
At a glance: Invasive procedures for skin rejuvenation
One of the classics of invasive skin treatment is wrinkle injection with hyaluronic acid. Here I compensate for wrinkles and volume loss by injecting hyaluronic acid under your skin. The procedure is particularly suitable for the face, lip wrinkles and nasolabial folds.
Mimic wrinkles can also be smoothed with Toxin injections. These temporarily paralyze your muscles. This way, you can smoothen wrinkles on the forehead, crow’s feet and frown lines.
Another option is a lifting, in which I remove excess skin and tighten the underlying tissue. This can be useful on the face, chin and neck, for example.
Minimally invasive procedures for skin rejuvenation
Unlike invasive procedures, minimally invasive procedures for skin rejuvenation require less intervention on the surface of your skin and only require a short recovery time. However, they are no less effective and can also achieve very good results, as I regularly see in my work as an aesthetic surgeon in Switzerland.
Fractional laser resurfacing, for example, is a common procedure for improving skin structure and removing pigmentation disorders. Laser treatments are particularly suitable for the facial skin, neck and hands. In our institution in Zug, for example, I offer fractional laser therapy, in which I use the laser to treat tiny skin areas and stimulate skin renewal. The rest of the tissue remains untouched and intact. This can significantly reduce scars, wrinkles and pigmentation marks.
Chemical peels are particularly suitable if you want to remove upper skin layers and stimulate skin renewal. Those who suffer from skin impurities or have many lines and age spots on their face usually benefit greatly from this. Similarly, our treatment with PRP gently removes the upper layer of skin and can be used to treat acne, for example.
Last but not least, the range of minimally invasive procedures also includes radiofrequency microneedling. This procedure has got the ability to tighten your skin and stimulate collagen production.
Rejuvenating your skin with non-invasive procedures
Recent research has produced many new technologies in recent years, which we make use of in aesthetic surgery. One of these is phototherapy which uses different wavelengths of light to treat various skin problems such as acne, pigmentation, rosacea and general skin ageing. This extremely gentle therapy is primarily suitable for the face, back, decollete and hands.
Another approach is exosome therapy: Exosomes play a critical role in cellular communication as they carry proteins, lipids and RNA. When applied to your skin, exosomes enhance skin renewal and repair. They promote cell turnover and collagen production, reduce inflammation and fine lines and improve skin texture, firmness and skin hydration.
Many of my patients also enjoy IV drip therapy which supplies minerals, antioxidants, vitamins and nutrients. With an absorption rate of nearly 100% IV drip therapy refreshes your aesthetic appearance and supports your immune system. Infusions are directly delivered to the required cells. This is especially helpful after surgical procedures.
