We explain the procedure, the technique and the type of anaesthesia most suitable for you in detail and answer all your questions. Nipple correction is performed at our practice in Hünenberg See (Zug), in our own operating theatre, providing our patients with the highest level of privacy and personalised care.
The Procedure
Nipple surgery is performed on an outpatient basis and corrects the nipple and areola. Under local anaesthesia or twilight sedation, depending on the extent of the procedure, small incisions are used to bring the nipple back into an outward position. Rather than simply cutting the connective tissue within the nipple, which can affect the ability to breastfeed, the fibres are spread or stretched. Breast tissue or skin flaps are then moved forward to fill the space. This helps prevent the nipple from retracting again and becoming inverted. The incision is then closed and secured.
Recovery & Aftercare
You can usually leave our private recovery room on the same day. When you are discharged, you will receive all the necessary instructions and medications so that you do not need to visit a pharmacy that day. You can reach our team at any time if you have questions. Further follow-up appointments are important to ensure that your healing process is carefully monitored. The usual downtime is 2–3 days.
Nipple Reduction
Many women find very large or long nipples uncomfortable. They can rub against clothing, causing pain or irritation. With nipple reduction, we adjust the size and shape of your nipples so that they are in harmony with your breasts and any associated discomfort is reduced. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia. Excess tissue is removed from the nipple and its shape is carefully remodelled. Downtime is similarly short to that of inverted nipple correction. Most patients are so satisfied with the results of the reduction that a second procedure is rarely necessary.
