What is breast augmentation with lipofilling
Breast augmentation with autologous fat (also called lipofilling) is an alternative to traditional breast augmentation procedures that use a silicone or saline implant. In the true sense of the word, fat is transferred to achieve a natural result of the breast surgery. The procedure is also known as lipofilling. Through a series of multiple steps, I can harvest fat from one area of the body and transfer it to the breasts, giving them a fuller, more voluminous appearance.

How does breast augmentation with lipofilling work?
First, the fat is taken from your body. Either from the abdomen, waist, thighs or another area. During liposuction, I perform either water assisted liposuction (“Water Assisted Liposuction, WAL”) or PAL (“Power Assisted Liposuction”).
It is important to know that I do not do this just for the purpose of liposuction. I also use this liposuction as a way to achieve beautiful
Body Contouring. The fat is then treated to extract and activate the stem cells. The stem cells are then injected into the breast in a concentrated form. I inject the fat precisely and gently into the breasts, always respecting the natural shape.
I have developed a procedure for breast augmentation with lipofilling, which means that I use the patient’s own fatty tissue, which is a rich source of stem cells and regenerative cells, to give women the opportunity to enlarge their breasts. The stem cells allow the transferred fat tissue to expand its own blood supply and become an integral part of the breast. This enables breast augmentation with particularly natural results.
What results can I expect after breast augmentation with autologous fat?
What results can I expect after breast augmentation with autologous fat?aThe final result is a breast augmentation with a particularly natural result. Since no foreign body is used, lipofilling does not have the complications associated with implants. Unlike traditional implants, this procedure will not interfere with a future mammogram or breastfeeding. The technique requires no general anesthesia, usually only a 48-hour recovery period, and leaves lasting results.
After the injection, the stem cells can help:
- Grow new blood vessels to supply the fat.
- Release anti-inflammatory substances to aid in healing.
- Release growth factors to tighten the skin on top of the breast.
How much can I increase my breast size with lipofilling?
Advances in the field of breast augmentation with autologous fat can increase your breast size by half to a full cup size. In many cases, this depends on how your body reacts to the re-injected fat. There is some absorption of the fat that is to be expected. However, the result of lipofilling is a permanent, very natural increase in breast size.
Is more than one operation required?
New techniques ensure greater “survival” of the fat than in the past. Nowadays I use a technique that achieves a “survival rate” of up to 85% of the injected fat. But in fact, a greater amount of fat may be reabsorbed by your body. In this case, and if you are not satisfied with the final result, we may have to repeat the procedure.
What are the advantages of breast augmentation with autologous fat compared to breast augmentation with implants?
There are advantages to each of the different breast augmentation procedures using autologous fat or implants. Overall, breast augmentation with autologous fat has fewer potential problems and can increase breasts up to a full cup size in a single treatment. However, if you have been thinking about augmenting your breasts and you would not be satisfied with less than a 2-3 size increase in cup size, then you should definitely consider breast implants.
Because I use your own tissue, there is no chance of an adverse reaction to foreign bodies, as can be the case with traditional silicone implants. What this means for you is that implant complications, such as capsular contracture (hard breast implants), are eliminated and there is no risk of rupture of the implants. Any other complication associated with artificial implants becomes null and void with breast augmentation using autologous fat.
This increasingly popular method of lipofilling has the added advantage of leaving no scars on the breast.
“Overall, breast augmentation has the potenital to increase breasts up to a full cup size in a single treatment.”
Am I a candidate for breast augmentation with autologous fat?
Yes, if you are looking for moderate breast augmentation with natural results. Breast augmentation with autologous fat is ideal for women who have lost fullness in their breasts due to age, weight fluctuations and breastfeeding. Also, in the event that you have had a procedure or illness and the shape or size of your breast has been affected, reconstructing your breast with lipofilling could be ideal for you. Whether you have just had a mastectomy, lumpectomy, or other procedure, natural-looking breast reconstruction could be an option for you to return your breast to its original condition. Because you are using your own tissue, there is no risk of encountering common implant-related problems.

FAQ
Breast augmentation with lipofilling involves harvesting fat from one area of your body, typically where there is excess fat like the abdomen or thighs, and injecting it into the breasts. This procedure not only increases breast size but also improves breast shape in a more natural way using the body’s own tissues.
The lipofilling procedure generally takes between one to two hours, depending on the amount of fat being transferred and the desired volume increase. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia or sedation.
Lipofilling offers a natural alternative to implants by using your own fat tissue, giving the opportunity to profit from a combined surgery e.g. breast augmentation and liposuction. Additionally, it eliminates concerns related to implant longevity and potential complications like rupture or capsular contracture.
Recovery times is very short compared to breast implants, with most patients being able to return to non-strenuous activities within a few days. However, full recovery, including resuming all normal activities and exercise, can take up to two weeks as swelling and bruising subside.
While some of the transferred fat may be reabsorbed by the body in the first few months, the remaining fat can provide long-lasting results. Typically, about 60-80% of the injected fat survives permanently in the new location.
Yes, lipofilling can be combined with breast implants to enhance the natural look and feel of the breasts, smooth out contours, and correct any asymmetries or irregularities from previous implant surgeries. Dr. Kelly has developed her own technique and performs the combination procedure for a lot of years now.
Ideal candidates are those who desire a modest increase in breast size and have adequate fat deposits elsewhere in their body for harvesting. Patients should be in good health, non-smokers, and have realistic expectations about the outcomes.
Risks include infection, asymmetry, fat necrosis, and calcification. Proper technique and postoperative care are crucial to minimizing these risks.
Preparation includes maintaining a stable weight, avoiding medications that can increase bleeding, and stopping smoking. A thorough consultation with your cosmetic surgeon will also involve discussing your medical history and aesthetic goals.
You may experience swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed pain relief. Wearing a compression garment on the donor site is recommended to support healing.
Initial results can be seen immediately, but the final results will become apparent after the swelling has subsided and the body has had time to heal fully, usually around 3 to 6 months post-procedure.
Long-term care includes regular follow-up visits to monitor the transferred fat and overall breast health. Maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle helps preserve the results.
Yes, lipofilling is particularly effective in correcting mild to moderate breast asymmetry by allowing precise adjustments to each breast’s volume and shape.
Some patients may require more than one session to achieve their desired breast volume, especially if a significant increase is desired or if there is a higher rate of fat absorption.
The cost varies depending on the extent of the procedure. Generally, it is comparable to or slightly more than traditional implant surgery due to the complexity of fat harvesting and transfer techniques.
The amount of volume that can be added with lipofilling (fat grafting) to the breasts varies, typically ranging from 100 to 400 milliliters per breast per session. However, the total volume added depends on the existing breast tissue, the amount of donor fat available, and how well the body absorbs the transferred fat. Sometimes multiple sessions may be needed to achieve desired results, although satisfaction rate even after one single session is quite high.
