Treatment Overview

Dr. Kelly Vasileiadou explains the treatment with fillers in detail in the video.

What is wrinkle treatment with filler?

Wrinkle treatments become interesting for most men and women only after a certain age. Laugh lines, thinking lines, worry lines: In the first two or three decades of a person’s life, they are so fine that they are barely visible. But over time, they become deeper and more numerous. Nowadays, there are a variety of dermal fillers (including hyaluronic acid) for every region of the face and type of wrinkle.

Injectable dermal fillers come in many forms. The best known is hyaluronic acid, which is a natural skin component. It is most frequently used in the treatment of wrinkles, we are talking about wrinkle injections with hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid as a natural skin component is one of the most popular wrinkle fillers. Not only can hyauron reduce wrinkles, but it also restores the lost volume of the face and lips, improves the contours of the face and provides excellent hydration.

How does the wrinkle treatment with filler work?

During wrinkle treatment with filler, hyaluronic acid or another filler is used to correct lip wrinkles (“smoker’s wrinkles”), vertical line wrinkles under the corners of the mouth (“marionette wrinkles”) and nasolabial folds.

Prior to wrinkle injections, I apply an anesthetic cream locally at the injection site, if needed. Most injectable implants contain lidocaine, a substance with local anesthetic effects, to make the process painless. Wrinkle injections with fillers are injected into the dermis of the skin (the layer of skin under the epidermis) using very thin needles or cannulas.

In the same way, hyaluronic acid injections can be performed in any area where you want to improve the skin quality, such as the décolleté area or the hands. Hyaluronic acid fillers are also ideal for increasing the volume of thin lips or restoring lost volume in areas such as the cheek, temple or chin. Filler can also be used to correct bags under the eyes and dark circles very well.

The results of filler treatment against wrinkles are visible immediately, but continue to improve over the course of 2-3 weeks after treatment.

What are fillers?

Injectable hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan, a natural component of human skin, which is an excellent material for facial wrinkle treatment and lip injections. Under the skin, hyaluronic acid attracts water molecules and helps to better link collagen and elastin fibers. As a result, hyaluronic acid replaces the lost volume of the skin, reduces wrinkles, corrects pre-existing scars, improves the shape of the lips, moisturizes and tightens the skin. Injectable hyaluronic acid is an absorbable material and is degraded within 8-12 months.

After the wrinkle treatment with filler

At the end of the wrinkle treatment with filler, a slight irritation and swelling may occur, which may last 2-3 days. In rare cases, there may be some bruising, which will disappear in the next few days.

It is important to give the hyaluronic acid time to develop its full effect. In the beginning, fillers attract water, which gradually disappears. The swelling will then disappear completely and you will see the final results after about 2-3 weeks.

How long does the result of wrinkle treatment with filler last?

The effect is immediate and lasts for about 8-18 months depending on the material used, in some cases even longer. For maximum results, I often combine treatment with injectable fillers with thread lifting, laser treatments, radiofrequency therapy or mesotherapy.

What other fillers are available?

Other preparations can also be considered for wrinkle treatment with fillers. There are some “volumizing” fillers which, compared to hyaluronic acid fillers, replace tissue volume loss while helping with skin rejuvenation by stimulating the body to produce collagen. These are composed of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA). Over time, the material is fully absorbed and the body metabolizes the CaHA microspheres, leaving behind its own natural collagen. Collagen stimulation peaks after 12 weeks, resulting in a final result that lasts up to 18 months. Fillers in this category lead to a significant improvement in skin quality and are therefore excellent for wrinkle treatment and simultaneous rejuvenation of the skin structure.

“I really like wrinkle treatments with fillers. With today’s products, I achieve amazing correction of wrinkles, a longer effect of the treatment and great potential for rejuvenation of the skin.”

FAQ

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable substances used to restore or add volume to the face, smooth out wrinkles and folds and stimulate the collagen production. Commonly used fillers include hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, and poly-L-lactic acid. They are popular for enhancing facial contours and improving signs of aging.

How long do dermal fillers last?

The duration of effects from dermal fillers can vary depending on the type of filler used and the area treated. Generally, results can last from 6 months to 2 years.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Yes, dermal fillers are considered safe when administered by a board-certified physician with extensive experience with injectables. It’s important to choose a licensed practitioner and discuss any allergies or medical conditions you have beforehand.

Do dermal filler injections hurt?

Dermal filler injections may cause mild discomfort, but the pain is usually minimal. Most filler products also contain lidocaine, a mild anesthetic, to help minimize discomfort during the procedure.

Can dermal fillers be removed?

Yes, certain types of dermal fillers, like those made from hyaluronic acid, can be dissolved by an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This makes them reversible if you are unhappy with the results or have an adverse reaction.

What is the difference between Botox and dermal fillers?

Botox relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles due to facial expressions, primarily in the upper face. On the other hand, dermal fillers fill in and plump up areas of lost volume and smooth out static wrinkles and folds, which do not change with muscle movements.

Can dermal fillers look natural?

Yes, when administered correctly, dermal fillers can look very natural. The key is moderation and working with an experienced board-certified physician and knowledgeable injector who understands facial anatomy and can achieve balance and symmetry.

What areas can be treated with dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers can be used in several areas of the face including the cheeks, lips, jawline, chin, nose, under the eyes, and nasolabial folds. They are versatile and can be tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual.

How soon can I see results after receiving dermal filler injections?

Results from dermal fillers are typically visible immediately after the procedure. However, it might take sometimes up to 4 weeks for the filler to settle and for the result to be more obvious.

Is there any downtime after getting dermal fillers?

There is minimal downtime required after getting dermal fillers. Most people return to their normal activities right after the procedure. However, it’s advisable to avoid strenuous activities and excessive sun exposure for the first 24-48 hours.

Who should avoid dermal fillers?

People with certain allergies, skin infections, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid dermal fillers. Discussing your health background with a physician is important to determine if dermal fillers are safe for you.

How can I prepare for a dermal filler treatment?

To prepare for dermal fillers, avoid alcohol, aspirin, and anti-inflammatory drugs that can increase bleeding and bruising. It’s also recommended to stay hydrated and inform your physician about all your medications and supplements.

What should I do after getting dermal fillers?

After receiving dermal fillers, avoid touching or applying pressure to the treated areas for at least a few hours. It’s also advisable to avoid high temperatures like saunas or steam rooms. Following your practitioner’s post-treatment care instructions is crucial for the best results.

Can dermal fillers be combined with other cosmetic procedures?

Yes, dermal fillers can be combined with other cosmetic treatments such as Botox, laser therapies, and chemical peels. Combining treatments can enhance overall results, but should be done under the guidance of a professional.

How do I choose the right type of dermal filler?

Choosing the right type of dermal filler depends on your specific aesthetic goals and the area being treated. A skilled practitioner will assess your facial structure and skin condition to recommend the most suitable type of filler for your needs.
